Electric cars keep getting more and more practical each year. However, cold weather is still considered as a considerable obstacle for electric car manufacturer as low temperatures can cause a lot of damages to the battery storage capacity of electric vehicles.
In a report from CNET, electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla is on the process to change that. At a secured facility which is located approximately two hours away from Fairbanks, Alaska, company engineers are developing electric vehicles which are able to deal with the icy cold weather safely and efficiently operate.
Tim Stevens, an editor from CNET, is the only journalist who has ever allowed to step foot into the facility. This is the same facility that the military has used to put advanced vehicles into tests. After the visit, Stevens stated that he had a great time testing out Tesla’s Model S on a snowy course.
He wrote:
While Stevens also mentioned about the difficulties of making batteries that can work well in low temperature, his report focuses mostly on the company’s efforts in developing vehicles that can operate well in both snowy and icy weather condition. But he did say that the engineering teams of the company are establishing strategies to utilize the use of power in icy cold conditions efficiently.
