Swiggy Invests Rs 175 Crore For 1,000 Cloud Kitchens Setup In India

Food delivery service Swiggy announced that it had made an investment of Rs 175 crore over two years for the setup of 1,000 cloud kitchens in India.

Recently, food delivery service Swiggy announced that it had made an investment of Rs 175 crore over two years for the setup of 1,000 cloud kitchens in 14 cities around India for its restaurant partners via its initiative called “Swiggy Access.” According to the company, an additional investment of Rs 75 crore will be made to expand its network of partner cloud kitchens across 12 new cities by March next year. With this Swiggy Access initiative, through cloud kitchens, restaurant partners can expand their presence both in their city as well as across new cities.
Swiggy said that it had invested in real estate space of more than a million square feet around 14 cities so that small, medium and large restaurant partners can expand their business to more locations.
Swiggy’s CEO of New Supply, Vishal Bhatia commented that:

He continued saying that very soon, India would rank second in terms of the highest number of cloud kitchens globally. The first position would be China.
This announcement comes only a few days after Sriharsha Majety, CEO of Swiggy talked about how the company has been investing significantly in “pods” to deal with the country’s supply gaps. Pods are where restaurant partners’ cloud kitchens are housed on Swiggy Access. Moreover, Majety also said that these pods would be scaled up so that they would be in a 10-minute reach of 99% of its customers.

Swiggy Access has boosted the growth of restaurant businesses, create unmatched customer experience while creating employment opportunities for residents in metros, tier 2 as well as tier 3 cities.
For the last two years, 8,000 jobs, including direct and indirect ones, in the restaurant have been created through Swiggy’s cloud kitchen initiatives. After successfully setting up 1,000 cloud kitchens, the company aims to add 7,000 more direct and indirect jobs for the restaurant industry within the next six months.
