According to Alphabet Inc., the company's CEO Sundar Pichai has received a total of $281 million last year as compensation. That's when he was recognized as one of the world’s highest-paid executives across the globe.

The package mainly contains stock compensations. Depending on the Alphabet’s stock return comparing with others based on the S&P 100 index, an amount of those compensations will be paid out.
Last Friday, a proxy statement filed with managers revealed Pichai’s income each year to be $650,000 recorded in 2019. Alphabet claimed that this year it will increase to $2 million while the company also mentioned their employees’ average salary is over 1000 times less than CEO Sundar Pichai’s.

At the end of 2019, Pichai was appointed as CEO of Alphabet, replaced Larry Page as a result of Page and co-founder Sergey Brin quitted the company.
Now, at the scene created by the pandemic and the risk of facing an economic recession, the 47-year-old executive will have to come up with a plan to maintain the stability of the company. Both visible cut-down in recruiting and investment plans in 2020 also have been applied.
This year there was a change from Alphabet’s board towards the companies to which it compared when it is finding a way to define compensation. It replaced HP Inc. and Qualcomm Inc. by Netflix Inc., Comcast Corp., and Salesforce.com Inc. Meanwhile, Apple Inc., Amazon.com Inc., and Facebook Inc. were also put on the list.
Alphabet also revealed David Drummond’s wife’s personal income. According to Axios, Drummond - the chief legal officer who now no longer works for the company, married another Google employee in September. Her salary in 2019 was approximately $197,000, said the filing.
