Spotify – a popular service of music streaming, has just released an announcement of Spotify Lite app in India. The company introduces Lite months after the full service was launched in this country in February. It was said that this Lite version of Spotify is the same as those of other apps. First of all, this version is a result of the full app which is watered down but still keeps basic functionality. This Lite app’s aim is to support older smartphones having limited storage and processing power. Moreover, though the app was revealed to have been kept light for its better performance, its size is only about 10MB. Therefore, it is easy for users to download the app.

Spotify also said that Spotify Lite has come to thirty-six different countries. According to the service, a Beta was run for this version several months ago in order to investigate users’ interest. This move was a chance for Spotify to refine its app and prepare the best for the launch. Amarjit Singh Batra - Spotify India’s Managing Director states:

In addition, he confirmed the company wants to develop the industry of music streaming in the long term and launching Spotify Lite is another attempt towards this goal. Users in India can have access to a variety of songs with the same experience as with Spotify. Additionally, users can experience the Lite’s new feature of setting data limits. It means that with the app, you can't cross your daily FUP caps. Therefore, you can be absolutely relaxed to listen to music instead of concerning about checking your data usage.
Also, the app was said to work on patchy or weak internet connection. Moreover, it is easy to control the music download cache if the storage space runs out. No matter if you are using Premium or free Spotify, the Lite app can be downloaded from Google Play Store. It does not depend on the main Spotify app; however, it requires your device to run Android 4.3 or later version. “Beta” market is still in the app listing but it might change soon.
