Apple has recently made an internal confirmation about an issue regarding MacBook Airs’ main logic board. According to the company, the problem only existed on a small number of its products. Authorized repair staff and Apple Stores will replace flawed logic boards with zero cost.

There might be some problems regarding MacBook Airs main logic boards

In the memo that Apple gave out to the repair staff, it noted that the issue happened particularly in the 13-inch, Retina, MacBook Air 2018 models having specific serial numbers. After identifying those serial numbers as affected by the problem above, the company will send emails to customers having machines of those numbers to inform them about the issue. Users can take their devices to authorized repair staff or Apple Stores to have them checked out.

The company said that the issue related to power, but it did not specify what users were actually going through. If you take a quick search about the problems, you’ll find out that when the company first launched the machines, some of them could not be powered on at all.

The company has a webpage that lists service and recall programs called “Exchange and Repair Extension Programs.” However, it has not publicized anything related to the problem above on this website yet. But not every program are listed on the web. Some other flaws that only affect a minority of users are not there either. We do not know based on which criteria Apple chooses to list specific issues on that site.

For devices that are affected by the main boards, the company is offering the repair program for four years since the initial purchase date. If you think you are experiencing the issue, you are more than welcome to take your MacBook Air to authorized service providers or Apple Stores.
