Samsung To Blame Coronavirus For The Poor Sales Of Galaxy S20

Because of the Coronavirus, on the first day, only 70,800 units of the Galaxy S20 lineup is sold, compared to 140,000 units of the Galaxy S10 line in 2019

The Coronavirus infection has had an impact on lots of matters technological, including tech conferences canceled to gadget launching delayed. According to Samsung, the virus is the direct cause of its Galaxy S20 low sales in South Korea.

On the first day available in the country, 70,800 units of the Galaxy S20 lineup is sold, compared to 140,000 units of the Galaxy S10 line in 2019. The prospect sounds even bleaker if you compare that sales to the 220,000 phones of the Galaxy Note 10 line released last August on its first day.

Samsung held the Coronavirus infection responsible for this horrible sales. According to a telecom official, the main reason is that people are reluctant to visit offline stores for fear of the virus.

The Galaxy S20 lineup includes the Galaxy S20 (Rs. 74,999), S20 Plus (Rs. 85,590), and S20 Ultra (Rs. 92,999). Their ridiculously high prices have raised eyebrows since the trend now is to opt for mid-range smartphones. So it might get worse before it gets better for Samsung.

Samsung is not the only company that has taken a heavy toll because of the Coronavirus. Apple in its annual shareholder meeting made public that it might not be able to meet the initial financial target for 2020’s first quarter. The iPhone maker cited the slow recovery of its production in China as the reason for this.

Another cause for the plummet in sales is that Apple was forced to close all of its stores in China last month for fear of the Coronavirus.

The situation does not seem to be brighter for Microsoft as it has told shareholders that the sales of the third quarter would be lower than expected as the supply chain took a heavy hit from the spread of the virus. Microsoft said that its personal computing business line would also be impacted.
