Oracle Reportedly Opens Gen 2 Cloud Data Centre In Mumbai

While the Indian government requires the global tech companies to keep their data stored locally and add the extra secure layers, on October 11, Oracle introduced a new Gen 2 Cloud data centre with the higher secure and more modern technology to its customers in this market.

More than 100 Indian customers as enterprises have reportedly moved their workloads to the new data centre. Oracle is now running it solely, instead of partnering with third parties.

The company also has had a plan to build another data centre in the city of Hyderabad in 2020.

According to the Executive VP of Oracle EMEA and JAPAC Philippe Mathieu:

In an interview with IANS, Andrew Sutherland, who now serves as the SVP-Technology of Oracle EMEA and JAPAC, said that one of the company’s most-cared topics has been data sovereignty. He said:

As such, both partners and customers in the Indian market can deploy the potentials of Oracle Cloud, as well as its top services such as Autonomous Database in a bid to bring innovation and boost business growth.

The Gen 2 cloud is responsible for providing modern tools to develop a cloud environment and supporting existing workloads. Indian enterprises thus can continue growing based on their own foundation.

In addition, HDFC Bank has further discussed the migration of its user acceptance testing (UAT) into Oracle Cloud Infrastructure or OCI in the data centre in India.

As said by the Country Head-Operations & Technology at HDFC Bank Bhavesh Zaveri:

Oracle hopes that it will be able to set up a new region every 23 days during the upcoming 15 months.

According to the company’s announcement, Oracle plans to open 20 new Generation 2 Cloud data centres across the world from now to the end of next year. At that time, it will have up to 36 Cloud regions.

Some of the most prominent customers of Oracle include TTK Healthcare, Comviva, Federal Bank, HDFC Bank, Karur Vysya Bank, and SRF. All of its customers expressed their support for this move.

The Federal Bank COO Shalini Warrier said:

In addition, Indian customers will soon be able to use the company’s Cloud Applications in the data centre. Until now, over 15,000 customers in this market have utilized Oracle to handle their workloads.

The Gen 2 Cloud has been the only infrastructure that is designed to run the company’s first database – Oracle Autonomous Database.

Oracle Cloud has provided a series of cloud computing portfolios such as business analytics, application development, security, blockchain, artificial intelligence, integration, and data management.
