Following Microsoft, the GPU-making giant Nvidia is looking forward to stepping into enterprise space while the world of consumer graphics is becoming more competitive and messy than ever and the company wants to rely less on this core business. As part of the long-term plan, Nvidia has already unveiled a supercomputer called "EGX Edge Supercomputing Platform", which is a match-up between certified GPU servers and Nvidia’s CUDA-X software.
At present, Microsoft is supporting the tech through Azure as well as Azure AI apps and Nvidia has counted a bunch of multinational firms as customers such as BMW, Samsung, Walmart or big metropolises like San Francisco and Las Vegas.
According to Nvidia, the EGX tech has come packed in a Walmart’s retail lab to level up in-store shopping. For instance, it can reportedly announce employees when they need to re-arrange shopping carts, restock foods or open-up stock shelves and checkout lanes. As per Nvidia, with the help of its tech, Walmart can crunch over 1.6 terabytes of data every second in real-time.
As for Samsung, the Korean giant is making use of the app in its manufacture lineups of semiconductors, even from scratch like designing. BMW, in the meantime, is computing data from vehicles’ cameras and sensors in quest of automating vehicle inspection. To help cities streamline traffic issues, Nvidia also introduces an inbuilt app called Nvidia Metropolis. In addition, an EGX’s app will boost up 5G deployments of the radio network in terms of both speed and quality, adding advances like AR and VR services.
At least 100 tech firms have reportedly got involved in this tool, suggesting that the effect it brings along is getting so much attention and appreciation all over the world.
