If you have questions for Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg about the social network, here’s your chance.
The chief executive officer of the world’s largest social platform with over 2.7 billion users, Zuckerberg, is set for testimony before the House Committee on Financial Services when Democratic Rep. Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez will ask the CEO questions from her Twitter followers.
This crowdsourcing effort has drawn attention from people, resulting in thousands of responses within less than one hour after the tweet went public. Many of the retweets focused on the reason behind the social giant’s decision to keep accepting political ads violating its own policy on misinformation. Other questions were about if the social firm should be regulated, and some others asked to see the algorithms used by Facebook.
Many questions are intriguing, but most of them seem off-topic for the committee. The hearing, scheduled for Wednesday, is called An Examination of Facebook and Its Impact on the Financial Services and Housing Sectors. The hearing will handle the social giant’s cryptocurrency project Libra.
Meanwhile, this is not the first time Mark Zuckerberg’s appeared before a congressional committee. In April last year, the tech mogul also had a testimony before committees in the Senate as well as the House for 10 hours in total, over a course of two days. The CEO answered questions around how Facebook handles user data, how it practices user privacy, as well as what ground the company’s operation is based on.
Facebook refused to give comments.
Over the past year, Facebook has been under fire from the public as well as scrutiny from lawmakers and regulators for user data security and privacy. The social giant has been criticized for several data breaches that affect millions of users, how it’s not transparent about its policy on the platform, among many other things.
