Internet Creator Worries About The Danger Of Big Tech Companies’ Dominance

Tim Berners-Lee is worried about how tech giants are dominating the Internet and the consequences of misleading social network as well as user security.

The Internet creator Time Berners-Lee, has spent much time working on the Internet’s freedom. Hence, if he tells you your Internet company is doing something wrong, you’d better sit up and pay close attention.

And his latest criticisms directly point to Google and Facebook, two of the largest Internet firms over the world that keep a remarkably huge user database.

When interviewed by Reuters, the father of the Internet express his concern towards the fact that the two technology giants have become dominant. He is so worried that he suggests they need beating by rivals, or users should abandon them; otherwise, the government should kick in and manually break them up.

Berners-Lee pointed out that it’s natural that one firm dominates the field, resulting no other alternative can come in throughout history and break things up. Concentration poses risks.

Prior to breaking them up, it is essential to find out if these giants are disrupted by not only small competitor kicking them off the market, but also by market shifting, by people’s interest growing in another place.

Berners-Lee said there has been a decrease on the Internet for many years. Yet, issues like the Cambridge Analytica incident is what brought the issue to its highest limit, killing his positively beautiful view of the Internet that he built.

He emphasized his disappointment with the web’s current state. He said that we had lost the feeling of empowering individuals and he thought the optimism has crumbled.

More importantly, he mentioned social media. Berners-Lee thinks social media only generates malice and hate. He said that if we put some love on the social network, it will cease, but if we put just a little hatred instead, it seems to spread widely and strongly. Then you may wonder if it’s because Twitter, as a social network, was built that way?

From all these happenings, Berners-Lee is trying to fix the Internet, he is attempting to break it down and start again from zero. He has developed a new version of the world wide web of his own, where user data is decentralized and protected so that everybody can be safe as they should be.
