As a result of the US trade ban leading to Google cutting tie with Huawei, the Chinese company is reportedly looking for a way to replace the Android operating system. Huawei’s current solution is its own Hongmeng OS or ARK OS as stated in a trademark filing. The company said that this operating system is 60% faster than Android. However, there are other sources saying that the company is also considering a Russian open source Sailfish OS called Aurora OS for its future devices.

It is believed that Guo Ping, Huawei’s CEO has had a talk with Russia’s Minister of Digital Development, Communications, and Mass Media, Konstantin Noskov. The discussion was about the possibility of Huawei devices to run on Sailfish OS. Huawei has reportedly tested the OS on its devices.
Most of us do not have a single idea of what the OS is. So here is a recap. Sailfish OS is based on Linux and it is also an open source operating system. The developers behind this OS were the ones who created the now defunct MeeGo OS of Nokia. Its biggest benefit is that Sailfish OS is entirely open sourced, unlike Android, which has only the basic framework freely available, meaning if you have Sailfish OS source code, you can do whatever you want with it.

Other advantages of this OS is the privacy and an easy-to-navigate gesture-based UI. Sailfish OS does support Android but it will have to be side-loaded manually. However, this problem will be no more if there is a new app store.
So now Huawei has two operating systems to consider, Sailfish OS and Hongmeng OS. We have no idea which one the company is going to choose as it has not said anything official. The only thing we can put our hopes on is that the company is going to have a different operating system for its future devices.
