Although the new Microsoft Edge is technically based on Chromium and it also allows you to download extensions from the Chrome Web Store, Google still recommends you to change to Chrome for secure extensions. Along with the recommendation of Google Chrome download link, this warning may raise a lot of questions for its users.

The thing is both platforms are established on the same underlying Chromium code, but why does Google assume that Microsoft Edge could not provide qualified security?
Obviously, Google will keep silent about the matter. No additional information, link, or explanation is provided in the warning. Bleeping Computer asked for Google’s explanation, but it did not receive any reply.

It is supposed that because of malicious extensions’ appearing in the Chrome Web Store, it can do nothing but remove them from the Store. These toxic extensions are remotely disabled in every user’s Chrome browser because of Google’s responsibility for users’ cybersecurity. It is the same as Apple’s ability to delete a malicious app on your iPhone in needed cases.
This occurred not long ago. In February 2020, over 500 malicious extensions were discovered on the Chrome Web Store, which then they were deleted and remotely disabled from people’s PCs to guarantee the Chrome users’ safety.

Because Microsoft has eliminated plenty of Google services code from Microsoft Edge, Google is probably unable to remotely disable malicious extensions in the browsers.
