With the hope to challenge Amazon Prime, Flipkart has introduced its own video streaming services including Prime Reading, Prime Music, and Prime Videos to Indian users. At the beginning of August, the Walmart-owned company first announced its plan to roll out its streaming services in this market.
In an interview with PTI, the Head Growth and Monetisation of Flipkart Prakash Sikaria said,
The video streaming services are added into a new update for the Flipkart app on the Android platform. As such, users will have to download version 6.17 – the latest app version on their smartphones to access these services.
Follow these three steps to start watching video on Flipkart:
1. Open the Flipkart app and click on the hamburger menu on the top corner of this app.
2. Choose the Video option, and then choose 3 videos or more.
3. Next, click on the Continue option to access the main menu of the video streaming service on this app.
All of the content is classified into 03 tabs including All tab, Movies tab, and Shows tab. All tab offers a variety of shows and movies that are grouped into specific genres, as well as popularity. In the second tab, Movies tab, users can search for movies according to genres.
Flipkart Video collects all of the movies and shows on its own platform. It also allows the app users to choose video quality (from data saver, auto to good), display the subtitles or not, as well as skip to any episode of that show. This functionality is a standard in many different video streaming platforms like Hotstar and Prime Video. As of now, the company has been exploiting content from many services including Arre, TVF, Viu, and Voot.
In addition to the video streaming services, Flipkart has launched a new section called Ideas in a bid to help its users to determine new purchases more easily. On its press release, the company posted,
