Struggling with the Libra project doesn’t make Facebook withdraw its plan to change the payment world. Many people are using Google Pay, Samsung Pay or Apple Pay on a daily basis, and it’s safe to say that most of them are having footprints on Facebook, too. Due to that, the social media behemoth now expects to take bounds and leaps when releasing a new built-in payment method for its billion-user platform – Facebook Pay.
In the quest of making online purchases and digital transactions simpler, Facebook Pay is designed to complete what Facebook has lacked, irrespectively of how massively popular it is. According to the company, once you’ve installed the service, you can start shopping on Marketplace, buying tickets, paying your share of a reunion dinner and even contributing to fund-raisers.
Users can set up Facebook Pay as the default payment method on select apps, and choose to do a one-time setup across apps within Facebook’s ecosystem. Facebook will first launch the service in the core app and Messenger this week, and other platforms like Instagram and WhatsApp will also support it in the near future.
When it comes to security and privacy issues, all data will get encrypted and monitor to prevent fraud. Users can use a PIN code or their own biometrics to make payments across apps. Of course, Facebook is responsible for locking your private information away, and it promises to not use them to personalize your shopping experience. The catch, as usual, Facebook Pay will still influence ads you will see afterward.
