Ericsson Sets Up A New Global AI Lab In Bengaluru

On December 13th, the world-class telecom company, Ericsson made an official statement regarding its plan to set up an AI lab in Bengaluru to research and develop Automation and AI technologies.
The Swedish company hoped that the new lab would make use of these technologies to spur its execution strategy in developing the currently leading systems including smart systems, data-driven, and robust ones. Ericsson’s purpose is to focus on growth, automation, and evolution for these systems.
The Artificial Intelligence accelerator is expected to bring 150 job opportunities to those who are living in Bengaluru. In 2019, Ericsson will begin recruiting a string of engineers, software developers, data scientists, Machine Learning architects, and AI architects.
The head of the company’s R&D Department in Bengaluru, Sanjeev Tyagi said that the establishment of this accelerator gave clear evidence for Ericsson’s commitment to Indians. The company has also been aware of the potentials in the Bengaluru market as a dynamic ecosystem that is full of talent sources.
This AI lab has become the central facility to boost projects under the 4 business areas and expand customer ones in the 5 market areas.
At the beginning of 2018, the US and Sweden had also welcomed two similar facilities from Ericsson. Until now, a lot of its projects are being carried out to integrate the capabilities of AI and Automation into its commercial products. We can easily see the positive potentials in applying data intelligently into telecommunications.
Along with the development of IoT and fifth-generation technology, the management and control of networks will not be the same as it is now, and there will be more promising ways to exploit these networks.
Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning driven automation will become the compulsory factor to manage networks effectively, and the new potentials will come from the data-centric technologies and bring opportunities to create new revenues as well as business models that the providers of telecom services need.
Tyagi further said that Ericsson would collaborate with start-ups, industry stakeholders, academia, and service providers to support the innovation.
The company also revealed all three new AI labs would have approximately 300 employees as software developers, data engineers, ML/AI architects, and data scientists across the world.
