For those who began surfing the Internet since the initial period, Yahoo Groups must be one of the familiar terms. Most Yahoo users used to discuss their favorite topics on this Groups website, from computing topics to fan communities. Even until now, some of these groups have continued to operate with a lot of members.
It is a pity that along with the rapid development of the internet, many once-famous websites and apps have come to an end. Yahoo has recently announced that it will officially delete all content on its Groups website on December 14th. However, users will no longer be able to share new content with their groups from October 21st. That means the web services provider will probably close the service sooner than expected.
After Yahoo deletes all old content, users can only browse the directory, email to a group (in which you are a member), and require approval from administrators.
In the upcoming time, the company will remove the following items: Message History, Message Digest, Email Updates, Conversations, Attachments, Database, Calendar, Folders, Photos, Links, Polls, and Files.
Additionally, users will feel more difficult to join Yahoo Groups because all of the public groups will move to the private or restricted mode. In other words, they can see these groups but they can only become members when being invited.
To save content on any group before Yahoo removes it, users need to download files directly on their group’s page. They also access the Privacy Dashboard page of Verizon Media to sign into their own Yahoo account and request the data of their group.
As revealed by Jason Scott, a famous US archivist, the Internet Archive may preserve some content of the Groups website:
