China Warns Canada About Repercussions Over Ban On Huawei

China says if Canada bans on sales of Huawei's 5G products, there will be repercussions, for sure.

The ongoing tension between China and Canada is mounting over Huawei.

On Thursday, China warned Canada about repercussions if its government banned on Huawei’s supply for the 5G network in the country. The news was reported by Reuters.

Accordingly, the warning came from Lu Shaye, China’s Ambassador at a news conference:

Shaye continued by saying Ottawa had better choose wisely in this situation.

Huawei hasn’t commented on this news.

Later, Canada’s Public Safety minister Ralph Goodale said that this decision is important for the country and they will do the right thing, the statement was made at a cabinet retreat in Quebec. Goodale added that they were carefully examining the technical and security issues. They will set Canada’s interest on the highest priority and when it comes to national security, there is no compromise.

China’s warning came following the world-shocking event, in which Huawei CFO was arrested by Canada as requested by the US government due to the accusation of Iran sanctions invasion. The arrested was Meng Wanzhou, also known as Huawei's founder’s daughter, was then released on bail in Canada.

The technology world is in a race towards 5G networks, with potentially higher data speeds as well as larger capacity for connected devices. Nevertheless, the United States has told countries no to use Huawei’s equipment for telecommunication because of concerns over national security. In July, Australia banned Huawei from rolling out its 5G devices.

On Wednesday, as reported by Reuters, US lawmakers submitted bills for banning sell US chip components to ZTE, Huawei and other Chinese telecom firms which violate the country’s sanctions or export control regulations.
