A foldable laptop like Lenovo's ThinkPad X1 Fold could be a technology trend in the coming years.

Last year, Lenovo unveiled the world's first foldable PC - a prototype OLED tablet that folds like a book, or an extremely compact laptop. Recently, at CES 2020, Lenovo has just confirmed that it will sell this device this year, called ThinkPad X1 Fold.

Compared to the prototype we saw last year, the commercial ThinkPad X1 Fold has pretty much the same hardware configuration as introduced last year, except for a Windows Hello-compatible camera on the top bezel.

The device still has a leather case on the outside. Its screen is still a 13.3-inch OLED panel with a 4:3 aspect ratio, supports 2048 x 1536 pixels resolution and is quite similar to the 9.7-inch iPad when fully opened.

Lenovo said that it was confident about the durability of the ThinkPad X1 Fold and also revealed that the screen of this folding computer is manufactured by LG Display. The device still has a wrinkle at the hinge position in the middle of the screen, but without careful observation, this wrinkle is really difficult to spot.

The X1 Fold boots Windows 10 Pro, with many tweaks added by Lenovo to optimize the experience of the device's foldable screen. As a result, users can easily switch between full-screen view and dual-screen mode, with two apps pinned to each half of the screen. In addition, Lenovo also said it will launch another version running Windows 10X operating system in the future.

When folded vertically, the ThinkPad X1 Fold will have an extra option that allows you to display the keyboard on the bottom half of the screen and type like a laptop. In addition, it also supports a wireless keyboard via Bluetooth connection, and it can attach magnetically to the lower half of the screen and is extremely useful in case you need a lot of typing.

The main advantage of the design is "flexibility". Of course, you can also open the screen to its fullest size, place it on a stand, connect a wireless keyboard, and use the device as a regular laptop.

Regarding the hardware configuration, Lenovo only said that the ThinkPad X1 Fold will run Intel's latest processor, using "hybrid" technology and may soon be revealed more at CES 2020. In addition, the company promises that the device will have a huge battery life of up to 11 hours.

The ThinkPad X1 Fold version running Windows 10 Pro will be sold in mid-2020 with a starting price of 2,499 USD (around Rs. 1,80,000). Despite the beautiful design and many high-end technologies, but this is really a quite expensive price for a laptop/tablet that not everyone can own. This year's CES sees a lot of cool new gadgets.
