This announcement came out a month after Bill Gates promised to deal with climate change when his foundation marked its 20th years of running last month. Gates mentioned the commitment in his announcement to step down.

The Gates Foundation is also working to fight COVID-19 and in February, it pledged $100 million to the endeavor. A part of that investment is on at-home Coronavirus test kits for those vulnerable to the infection of COVID-19 in Seattle, where Microsoft’s headquarter located.

Gates has not been spending all his time at Microsoft since 2008 to dedicate to his foundation. He left the chairman post six years ago and gave Satya Nadella the position. On the same day the announcement was made, Gates said he would still serve as an adviser to the current CEO.

Microsoft was an important part of his life’s work so he would provide assistance to Satya Nadella to help the company achieves its goals

Gates shared that his decision to step down did not mean that he would step away from the company. Microsoft was an important part of his life’s work so he would provide assistance to Satya Nadella to help the company achieves its goals.

Nadella said Bill Gates founded Microsoft to solve some of the most pressing challenges of the world. His leadership and vision have benefited he board greatly and it will continue so in the future.
