Many firms have decided to embrace the work-from-home culture in the future even when COVID-19 is got rid of. And now, technology giant Microsoft has decided to join the bandwagon. The company has announced that its employees can work from home permanently if they want to.
At the moment, Microsoft employees in the US are still working from home. And they won’t be returning to the workspaces until January 2021. However, once they do, they will have the option of continuing their WFH practice.

In a statement, a spokesperson of the company said that Microsoft’s goal was to evolve by supporting its employees’ business needs and workstyles.
The Verge reports that employees of Microsoft who want to work from home will need to be approved by their managers. Even when they don’t have the approval, they can still work remotely but no more than 50% of their week.
Not all employees will have a permanent WFH option. Those who work in the labs or those who have to train other employees won’t be eligible.
Microsoft also stated that workers could relocate across the US or overseas. In that case, depending on their locations, they will have salary adjustments. Expenses for home offices may even be covered by the company.
The company’s decision is to follow a larger trend set by tech majors. Earlier, Facebook said that half of its employees could work remotely permanently within 5 to 10 years. Meanwhile, Infosys has also emphasized the work-from-home culture.
