Apple has recently chosen India to manufacture the iPhone 11. Now, a new report suggests that the iPhone 12 will also be made in the country. According to The Business Standard report, Apple is investing a huge amount of money into its plant in Bengaluru for the process. This aligns with recent reports suggesting that Wistron, one of the Cupertino giant’s manufacturing partners, is recruiting 10,000 new employees for its Karnataka plant.
Not only that, but an ex-minister from Karnataka has also posted on his Twitter account that Apple will be manufacturing the iPhone 12 in a new factory in Narsapura.
All of this is great news for the Make in India scheme. With Apple making its flagship phones in India, the new iPhone is expected to be relatively cheaper than the iPhone 11.
In India, at launch, the price of the iPhone 11 was lower than that of the iPhone XR. Since the iPhone 12 will be made in India from the beginning, the iPhone 12 is likely to be more affordable than its predecessor since there are no import duties.
Of course, we will have to wait to see if this is true. However, lowering the price of the iPhone in India will be beneficial for Apple. Although the smartphone market of the country is big, not may people buy iPhones because of their high prices compared to the US and other countries.
This year, Apple is rumored to unveil four new iPhones with screen sizes varying from 5.4-inches to 6.7-inches. Recently, the company has confirmed that there would be a delay in the launch of the new iPhones due to COVID-19.
