Apple Can Make Enough iPhones Outside China To Satisfy US Demand

CEO Tim Cook believed Apple devices will escape the fallout from the US-China trade war.

Amid the escalation of the recent trade war between the US and China, Apple is supposed to move its production lines outside China. According to Bloomberg, the company’s longstanding counterpart Hon Hai Precision Industry (as known as Foxconn) has the ability to produce enough devices that could satisfy Apple’s US market outside China if it’s necessary.

It’s worth noting that most iPhones are currently manufactured in the mainland. Young Liu – the semiconductor division chief of Foxconn said to Bloomberg on Tuesday:

Liu also added that the US tech giant has not asked its Taiwanese manufacturer to move production immediately. However, it’s said to be ready for doing that, in case the US President Donald Trump makes his trade war with Chinese up to a warning stage.

Apple CEO Tim Cook did show his confidence about the company’s future last week. He believed Apple devices will escape the fallout from the US-China trade war. Making the iPhone outside of China could make Apple avoid additional taxes that could easily get affected by the tariffs.

Further speaking, Apple has not disclosed how many iPhones were sold each quarter. Said in a report made in February 2018, Counterpoint Research disclosed an estimated 22 million had been sold during the last quarter of 2017, more than forty percent of over 50 million devices the tech giant sold in the same quarter worldwide.

Apple hasn’t responded to a request for comment.
