Another year, another record-breaking season for Amazon, according to an announcement from the retailer this morning. The company gains “tens of millions” of new Prime subscribers, both on trial and paid. There are more items were ordered by the company’s global customers than ever. The platform sells “millions more Amazon devices” than the last holiday season. The best-selling Black Friday devices once again included Fire TV and Amazon Echo speakers.
Specifically, the bestsellers were the Echo, the Echo Dot, and the Fire TV Stick 4K.
Millions of Fire tablets, Kindle devices, and Fire TV devices were also shopped. The sales of smart home devices also reach record numbers. Ring Video Doorbell 2, Amazon Smart Plug, the iRobot Roomba 690 and Kasa Smart Plug Mini Outlet from TP-Link were among the bestsellers.
With lower price and Amazon’s considerable discounts, the Echo Dot has constantly remained its rank as the giant online retailer's top-selling product.
During this year Black Friday weekend, Echo Dot beat other manufacturers’ products to become the top-selling device on the site. This proves Amazon’s great ability to make use of its own retail site to promote its own products. This should be considered as an advantage for Amazon when the market for smart speakers is heating up among companies like Apple, Google and Chinese smart device maker Xiaomi and Alibaba.
While in the US, Amazon is leading the smart speaker market, internationally it’s losing to Google and other manufacturers.
This year, consumers also shopped for other bestsellers such as Bose QuietComfort Wireless headphones, Carhartt's fashion items, and Glam Glitter Series Dolls from L.O.L Surprise!, and many more.
The company doesn’t reveal its sales numbers but rather announces new records. Amazon’s Prime expansion can be considered as the attribution to these record-breaking sales. Besides being available in France, Canada, Austria, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Spain, India, Japan, UK, the US, China and Mexico, Amazon has been expanded to Luxembourg, Netherlands, Singapore, and Australia. The more Prime memberships Amazon get, the more sales it can achieve.
That’s precisely why the larger goal of Amazon is not just selling products to online shoppers like other e-commerce sites, but attracting these buyers with other online products like free e-books, Prime Music, Prime Video and many more.
Back in April, Amazon announced that the company has finally hit the record of over 100 million paid Prime subscribers. According to some analysts, the number is expected to multiply, 30 to 40% a year. Citigroup predicts that the next decade, the number of Prime members will be 275 million.
One of Amazon’s Prime strategy is to ship products on tighter time frames. During the holidays, Amazon even offered delivery on Christmas Eve in some markets where same-day delivery is available.
