In March, a payload will be sent to the ISS onboard SpaceX Dragon rocket.
And what is in the content of this special delivery you ask? An extension in the form of an exterior facility to the International Space Station, shower technology so that scientists can study water droplets, experiments on human heart cells and 3D printing, and a package from Adidas, the legendary German sneaker manufacturer.

Inside the Adidas package are pellets for Boost shoes’ midsole. The target of this experiment is to learn how the pellets move when they are formed into a single material. They intend to achieve this by observing the pellets with a high-speed camera as they are compressed. Adidas believes that they will get better insight when the experiment is conducted in a zero-gravity environment.

Adidas said that once they get their hands on the material and footage sent back from space, they could finally create an out-of-this-world running technology. The shoe-making company also hinted further collaboration with NASA. But the real question remains, when can we see disruptive shoe designs like the Mars Yard 2?

According to NASA, the results of this study can prove how effective the International Space Station can be in providing an environment for researching manufacturing methods, which, in turn, could confirm the commercial use of the ISS.
New methods for foam molding can bring benefits to a wide range of other businesses, including cushioning materials and packaging.
