Wi-Fi Signals Can Now Be Used To Charge Your Smartphone

Their latest products have had a lot of prominent advantages, such as cost-effectiveness; and they are assumingly suitable for mass production.

The researchers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) have developed a new device to leverage electromagnetic signals (Wi-Fi signals) which are floating in your space and hail from smartphones, laptops, or any other units with the internet connectivity.

While the researchers are searching for new alternatives to supply power for flexible, small medical devices or wearables, instead of batteries, the Wi-Fi signals may be a perfect choice. Being aware of this, they designed a gadget to gather Wi-Fi and turn it into the electricity.

Rectennas are the technology applied to develop the gadget. In fact, this is not the first time they have come to the public. However, the rectennas have never created such kinds of active electricity. The researchers published their research in the journal Nature on January 28.

These inventors from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology said that their latest products had a lot of prominent advantages, such as cost-effectiveness. They are assumingly suitable for mass production. In addition, they can make use of Wi-Fi signals at high frequencies to supply the power for some kinds of devices, from LEDs to circuitry of small units.
