Did you know that there are only two countries in the world that do not allow Wi-Fi on flights? One is India, and the other is North Korea.
The passenger onboard flights in India are definitely not happy about this especially those who travel long-haul. The situations are even worse with budget airlines as there is no such thing as inflight entertainment.
However, that will soon change as the Indian government has decided to allow Wi-Fi on commercial flights.

While international flights to India still have Wi-Fi service onboard, they are compelled by law to turn it off when they reach the Indian airspace. Those rules are odd, especially when inflight Wi-Fi has been a thing since 2008 and India is quite quick when it comes to applying technology.

The decision is made after a long time of consideration. TRAI (short for Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) gave their approval for the proposal of inflight Wi-Fi in May 2018.
However, do not expect to surface social media on flights soon as airlines need time to set up the necessary infrastructure. So we now have two choices, one is to use India satellites and the other is to go through those of other countries. The second option can only feasible if the Department of Space approves it.
Major domestic airlines in India have not yet commented anything on the story but we expect to hear from them soon as this is a huge thing for them and their future passengers.
