Why Google Pixel 4 Motion Sense Will Be Rendered Useless In India

For those who are planning on getting or importing the Google Pixel 4 from international markets, here’s why they shouldn’t do so.

Google officially introduced the Pixel 4 earlier this month. But most tech enthusiasts have probably known almost everything about this smartphone. Unfortunately, the phone will not make it to the Indian market. For those who are planning on getting or importing the Google smartphone from abroad, here’s why they shouldn’t do so.

While it may be the exorbitant price tag that doesn’t allow the Pixel 4 to reach India, it is also due to one of the phone’s new standout features. It is the new Motion Sense feature that uses the Soli radar chip.

The Soli radar chip powering the Motion Sense feature is unlicensed and unavailable for civilian use in India.

This radar chip will not work in India since it makes use of the 60GHz mmWave frequency. Therefore, it is unlicensed and unavailable for civilian use in the country. That explains why the phone will not be released in India since it is now missing one of its key features.

Some users have already planned on importing the phone from international markets to India thinking the phone would still work since it came from outside of India. It does; however, as stated by Austin Evans-a YouTuber, once a Pixel 4’s owner enters the territory of India, Australia, Japan, and many other countries, the Soli radar chip will become useless.

A pop up that read “Motion Sense is Off” appeared.

The image above shows that once Evans entered Japan, he opened his phone to check whether the feature still worked or not. But a pop up which read “Motion Sense is Off” appeared. This basically means that if you import or carry a Pixel 4/4XL to India, it would still work but without Motion Sense, super-fast Face Unlock and reach to check phone.

So, for those who were thinking about buying a Pixel 4 from outside of India, they had better save their money or they can spend on an Apple iPhone 11 Pro instead.
