Apple products have long been known for top-notch quality, including water resistance ability. Since the Watch Series 2, Apple’s smartwatches have been able to survive being submerged completely in the water. However, water can be trapped in their speakers, which the tech giant has solved using a water-eject feature that literally gets rid of water from the speakers.
Over the past few months, YouTube channel The Slow Mo Guys have revealed small secrets that normally we don’t see or notice. And one of their latest videos at 2,000 frames per second indicates how the water-eject feature works.
In the video, you would hear chirps. When the water-eject feature is activated, it makes a tiny diaphragm in the speaker openings move in and out, which is like a pump forcing out trapped water. Eventually, the diaphragm’s motions begin pulling water in just as much as they push out, so they are paused for a moment to let the water inside settle before vibrating again to push out more water.
This is why you will hear 10 quick chirps when the feature is activated, not a long single tone. Not just the Watch Series, the iPhone has also proven well resistant to water even if they don't have an IP rating or a lower one than reality. It appears that despite all the investigations going on and the always hefty price tag, the tech giant doesn't let us down.
