Over the years, Fujifilm has made its presence felt with different cameras released. With its new product called SX800, it seems like the company is making its entry into the market for surveillance cameras.

What’s worth noting here is when the company says this specific camera is a long-range surveillance camera, they mean it. The camera’s 40x optical zoom allows it to observe subjects even if you are far away. SX 800 has a focal length of 20mm to 800mm. Its 1.25x digital zoom means you can zoom as far as 1,000mm. With these features, the camera is meant to be deployed at sprawling commercial facilities or border security posts. To put it simply, you can place the camera a kilometer away and it still can read a vehicle’s license plate.

On the market, there have already been long-range cameras which are designed for commercial use, but the SX800 is still one-of-a-kind. The camera is equipped with a 0.3-second autofocus system, state-of-the-art image stabilization performance, as well as dehaze and fog reduction, features for distant objects’ clear footage. Its 819200 ISO level guarantees its effectiveness when used at night.
In an advertisement to promote the SX800, the company released a video featuring the camera doing insane things. The camera is able to read a handheld sign which is 2.2km away. It can also take a clear picture of the Tokyo Tower which stands 3km away.
This camera can be useful not only for border security but also for wildlife park protection as well as poachers catching. Places like airports or other public places could also make use of the SX800 to prevent unauthorized intrusion. Its long-range coverage means that it will take fewer cameras to cover an area.
