Mi Band 5 Will Reportedly Come With NFC Support For Global Markets

Xiaomi will reportedly support NFC technology on the global version of the Mi Band 5.

Although the Mi Band 4 was just launched a few months ago, Xiaomi has been reportedly ready for another launch of its Mi Band 5 model. The company is collaborating with Huami in quest of making the band, noting that Mi Bands were exclusively developed by the duo. Though previous Mi Bands do not support a significant feature for global markets, Mi Band 5 will reportedly come with that key factor with both local and global versions, according to a recent report.

Until now, NFC is still limited to customers in China.

The key feature is the NFC support, which never been made out of China on the Mi Band 3 and Mi Band 4 models, even they had NFC variants. Thanks to an NFC chip, the Mi Band 4 can enable wireless payments and even the storage of identity cards or bus passes. Those NFC-supported variants are never released in other regions excluding China because it has still been the only market that provides Alipay contactless payment all around the country. It remains unclear why Xiaomi changes the plan for Mi Band 5, but both Chinese and global customers will have the chance to use NFC support on this upcoming model.

Mi Band 4 has continued to take the world by storm since its launch.

Once those Mi Band 5 variants hit the market, they will be one amongst the few cheap fitness trackers that support NFC payments in the world. However, there is not a lot of information about whether users can make payments through popular apps like Google Pay or not. Keep in mind that it’s still in the development stage, and an official launch is also quite far away.

The success of the Mi Band series has helped Xiaomi become the biggest player in the wrist-worn wearable industry at present, especially when they started launching the Mi Band 4.
