Lenovo Yoga series has long been associated with slimness and lightweight and the Lenovo yoga slim 7i is no exception.

This year, Lenovo introduces a revised Yoga Slim 7 with 10th Gen Intel Core processors and a new price tag. This Lenovo yoga slim 7i review looks at the i5 variant - the model users most likely to choose.

Design

Apple Macbook Air has long been the standard for thin and lightweight laptops but Windows counterparts have finally caught up, and the Lenovo yoga slim 7i can attest. The 14-inch form makes sure that the device can fit in a backpack to be carried around. It’s also extremely thin with the usual clamshell design.

Except for the plastic bottom plate, almost the entire chassis is made out of Aluminium. On the lid, you will find the Lenovo and the Yoga logos.

Port-wise, you have all you ever need with a laptop despite the slim edges. You have two USB 3.2 Type-A ports, a Type-C port, a USB 3.2 Type-C port, a combo jack for microphone and audio, plus, a micro SD card slot. Users have access to Bluetooth 5.0 and Wi-Fi 5 with this laptop.

Open the lid of the Lenovo yoga slim 7i and you see a thoughtfully designed interior. The QWERTY keyboard has white backlighting and big keycaps. Given the compactness of the laptop, the trackpad is of considerable size. The speakers are on the sides of the keyboard and the power button are sided with the ports.

The screen is covered by glass, not the usual matte plastic. While the choice of material means the look is gorgeous, the display is prone to smudges and scratches.

There are a webcam and a range of IR sensors at the top and the lid sticks firmly to the deck, thanks to the magnetic attachments. The hinge lets users tilt the lid at a 180-degree angle and the sensors provide a Face ID-like verification system.

The Lenovo yoga slim 7i weighs only 1.4 kg, meaning you can carry it around with one hand.

Display

When the lid is opened, the laptop is dominated by a 14-inch 1080p IPS LCD display. While Lenovo doesn’t provide the exact color gamut of the laptop, it appears the Lenovo yoga slim 7i features a 75% RGB color gamut. Images have vibrant and bright colors showing on this display.

The thin bezels make for an immersive experience and the 300-nit brightness is more than enough for an indoor environment. However, when you work outside, the glossy surface and its reflections can be a real problem.

Performance

Under the hood, the laptop runs on the 10th Gen Intel Core i5-1035G1 processor aiming at some basic photo editing, opening some Chrome tabs, and running a few apps. Other Lenovo yoga slim 7i specs include RAM of 8GB, PCIe SSD storage of 512GB, plus, and NVIDIA GeForce MX350 GPU.

These specs don’t make for a real powerhouse but that isn’t what the laptop tries to be anyway. It aims at being a work laptop that can support basic entertainment. There is no lag or stutter when switching tabs or apps.

The MX350 GPU allows for basic photo editing. You will be fine with it as long as you don’t venture outside of the casual tasks. Video editing is possible on the Lenovo yoga slim 7i but it takes time for the laptop to process 4K footage.

Gaming is also smooth if you stick to titles like PUBG Lite and Fortnite. However, it can get quite hot because of the slim body of the device.

The keyboard on this laptop is good, with satisfying feedback with all the keys. The layout helps with avoiding mistyping. The trackpad is highly responsive and should meet the demands of an average user.

Despite the compact form, the speakers on the Lenovo yoga slim 7i are clear and loud. You will have clear highs and decent bass.

Another handy feature is the Windows Hello based on IR sensors to sign you into the device. The whole process of recognizing and initiating the laptop takes less than a second so there is no need to type in a PIN or password.

A downside here is the bad quality of the webcam.

Battery

Lenovo yoga slim 7i sports a 60.7Wh battery. With a day of connecting to Wi-Fi, opening a few apps at the same time, you can expect around 8 hours a day. With a heavier workload, expect approximately 6 hours. This much time is acceptable for working from home but you will have to bring along the power adapter if you ever need to carry it around.

When you charge and use it at the same time, the Lenovo yoga slim 7i is fully charged in 1.5 hours. Plug it in for 40 minutes and expect to have half of the power cell.

Lenovo yoga slim 7i price in India is Rs 86,300.
