Every Product And Service Amazon Just Announced At The Alexa Event

Amazon has just fed us with a series of new products at the Alexa event, including new Echo smart screens and speakers, along with Eero and Ring smart home and connected items. The tech giant also announced some unexpected devices such as Alexa glasses, earbuds, a smart ring, and an Alexa-powered oven.

Now, here’s the list of everything that Amazon announced at the event.

New Echos

The biggest announcements made were about the company’s latest updates to the Echo product line.

Echo Dot with Clock

Amazon has given a nifty upgrade to its Echo Dot entry-level lineup. Now, the Echo Dot with Clock has a digital alarm clock on its front, and it can be dimmed when you want. In addition, its LED display shows the weather when you ask or a countdown timer.

It doesn’t replace the original Echo Dot though, and you just pay extra Rs 710 to get the new feature.

Echo Studio

This long-anticipated item is Amazon’s rival to Apple’s Home Pod and Google’s Next Max. At a price of Rs 14,188, Echo Studio provides support for Dolby Atmos and 3D audio. The device features five drivers, one of which is a 1-inch front-firing tweeter, a downward-facing 5.25-inch woofer, and three 2-inch midrange speakers that are aimed at three directions.

Additionally, the product houses a 24-bit DAC along with a power amplifier with a bandwidth of 100 kHz supporting lossless and high-resolution music playback.

Echo Buds

This surprisingly unveiled product is priced at Rs 9,152. The wireless earbuds come with not only the Active Noise Reduction Technology from Bose, but also hands-free access to Alexa, allowing you to do stuff like ordering an Uber, getting directions, playing music, etc. In the coming time, you will get more capabilities with this device.

In terms of battery life, the Echo Buds can survive 5 hours of playing music or 4 hours of calling, it also comes with a case which can recharge three times. You can also access Google Assistant or Siri with these earbuds with just a tap.

Echo Show 8

At the same price with the Echo Buds, the Echo Show 8 measures 8 inches with a screen. This device is a bit larger than the Echo 5 and smaller than the 10-inch flagship Echo. The product houses an HD screen as well as a built-in camera shutter.

Echo

Amazon has given new colorful fabric covers and better sound to its Echo speaker. The new color options include Sandstone, Heather Grey, Charcoal, and Twilight Blue but its price remains the same at Rs 7,024.

Echo Glow

This accessory is essentially a nightlight for your children, which can change flash and color to the music. Its price is Rs 2,128.

Echo Flex

This is the device that you can take to the bathroom with you, at the price of Rs 1,774. You can plug the Flex into any outlet and it works as a small-sized smart speaker. It doesn’t have a camera but it does respond to voice commands, for example, you can ask about the weather and the news as you prepare to go to work.

You can also upgrade this device with a Motion Sensor or Smart Night Light, both priced at Rs 993.

Echo Frames & Loop

One of the two beta, invite-only devices Amazon introduced was a pair of Alexa-enabled glasses costs Rs 12,770, which has four micro speakers stuck in the frame for hands-free access to the digital assistant.

The second product is an Alexa-enabled smart ring, priced at Rs 9,222, equipped with two microphones. It puts the assistant on your finger so that you can ask quick questions or make brief calls.

Other products

New Eero mesh Wi-Fi router

Amazon’s router now works better with the company’s voice assistant. With this router, you can pause or shut off the Wi-Fi using voice commands. This feature will then roll out to other routers from brands like Arris, Linsky, Asus, and TP-Link by an API. You can either get a single router for Rs 7,024 or a three-pack for Rs 17,665.

Amazon Smart Oven

The tech giant now combines a microwave, a food warmer, an oven, and an air fryer in a Rs 17,736 product. As soon as you pair the Smart Oven with Echo, you can tell Alexa to start, stop the cooking, or preheat the oven, etc.

New Ring Cams

With the launch of the Rs 14,118 Ring Stick Up Cam Elite, the price of the Ring Stick Up Cam dropped to Rs 7,024. The new camera will work over Ethernet.

On the other hand, Ring Indoor Cam is a wired, cheaper version of the camera, with a price of Rs 4,257.

Other announcements

Alexa is now smarter but weirder

During the event, Amazon also revealed several upgrades to its voice assistant.

• Multilingual mode: which means the assistant can now speak English as well as Spanish in the United States, English and French if you’re in Canada, and English and Hindi for us in India.
• New Neural Text to Speech model: Alexa will be more expressive with the help of machine learning.
• Celebrity voices: If you’re a fan of Samuel L. Jackson, you may not mind paying an extra Rs 70 to add his voice to Echo devices. More voices from celebrities will come in the future.
• Alexa featured in GM: the voice assistant will come to Buic, Chevy, newer and 2018 Cadillac, and GMC vehicles.
• Scan-to-Cook: this upgrade for the Echo Show will allow you to scan a barcode, having the Smart Oven cook the item correct. This feature is compatible with hundreds of Whole Foods brands.
• Certified for Humans: the new program will highlight smart home items that are easy to use for consumers when they search on Amazon.
• Alexa Guard: updating this feature to listen to more concerning sounds such as talking, footsteps, a door closing or coughing when you’re away.
• Alexa replenishment service: set to be launched later this year, it will alert you when smart home devices’ supplies are low, such as batteries.
• New utterances: this will make it possible to ask the voice assistant questions like “why did you do that?” and “tell me what you heard.”

Alexa-powered Food Network Kitchen Service

Amazon now partners with Food Network to enhance user experience in the kitchen. The pair will offer live as well as on-demand cooking classes for users of the Echo Show. The services will come out in October and users can enjoy this on their tablets and phones too.

Amazon Sidewalk

This one is among the more interesting introductions at the event, which is a long-distance, the low-bandwidth, wireless protocol made to connect every IoT devices in your house and even places Wi-Fi or Bluetooth cannot reach.

The network relies on the over-the-air 900MHz spectrum, which is free, and could enable things such as Alexa-connected lights or mailbox in your yard.

Ring Fetch

This dog tag is the first item to benefit from Amazon Sidewalk, which will alert you when your pup goes beyond a geofence you established. The Ring Fetch will come out in 2020.
