Last night, Apple hosted the virtual One More Thing event, during which it announced the M1, its first-ever in-house system-on-chip for Mac computers. It also unveiled the Macs running on this processor, including the Mac Mini, MacBook Air, and 13-inch MacBook Pro.
Among the laptops announced during this event, the 13-inch MacBook Pro is probably the most important device, which is priced at $1,300 (Rs 96,570). According to Apple, the new MBP works three times faster than a Windows laptop of the same range.
Besides, the new MacBook Pro is expected to offer more power than its predecessor, but it remains unclear if Apple uses a 10th-gen or 8th-gen Intel chip. The new CPU is supposedly 2.8 times faster while the GPU may be 5 times faster and machine learning may be 11 times faster.
The tech giant says that the M1-powered Pro will last 17 hours on web browsing and handle video playback for 20 consecutive hours, which is twice as long as the battery life of the previous model. But how this statement turns out in real life remains to be tested.
The new MacBook Pro weighs 1.3 kilograms, featuring an array of three microphones along with an improved camera ISP. And with the processing power of the M1, you will get an upgraded video call experience.
There is also the Touch ID, a Touch Bar, as well as two Thunderbolt ports that support USB 4, meaning you can connect the laptop to the Pro Display XDR.
The new macOS version Big Sur has been optimized to run on the M1 processor. This means as soon as you open the MacBook Pro, it will wake up while its apps will launch immediately.
Orders for all the new Macs with the M1 are already available and shipment will start next week.
