Zomato, the Indian online food ordering and restaurant guide company, said on Wednesday that 10 cities in India will receive tamper-proof packaging which includes an extra layer for safer food delivery.
In particular, the safety seals are recyclable and reusable, which are made from one material polymer. Plus, the company will also launch biodegradable packaging version, according to its statement.
The tamper-proof packaging
The company added that when the restaurant seals the food, it will be delivered with 100 percent tamper-proof packet that buyers can only open by cutting off the top-end strip.
According to the company’s statement, it will first roll out this packaging to 10 cities, namely Delhi NCR, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Pune, Nagpur, Vadodara, and Chandigarh.
Eventually, this packaging will be available across more than 180 cities where Zomato is offering its online ordering and delivery services.
The company's website
The new move, dubbed ‘Zomato Safely Sealed’, is the company’s latest attempt to add another layer of safety to make sure the food quality is just good as new from the kitchen when it arrives at customers’ hands, according to Mohit Gupta, CEO of Zomato Food Delivery. He additionally said that there are more than 5,000 restaurants sealing their food with its packaging.
Zomato, established in 2008 by Pankaj Chaddah and Deepinder Goyal, is an Indian restaurant discovery and search service. The company provides users with info and reviews of various restaurants, along with menu images if the restaurant doesn’t have an official website and online delivery service in several countries.
By 2011, the company launched in Chennai, Pune, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, and Hyderabad. Then when .xxx domains were introduced in the same year, the company rolled out its food porn site, zomato.xxx. In addition, it collaborated with Citibank and released a print version of this website content called “Citibank Zomato Restaurant Guide” in May 2012. However, the product has been discontinued.
