The recent case in Delhi of a pizza delivery guy infected with COVID-19 has shocked everyone. As a result, 72 families who had close contact with the guy have been put under self-quarantine.
Food delivery services like Swiggy and Zomato are trying to reduce the risk of their delivery personnel getting the virus.
Display body temperature

To ensure the safety of both the customers and their riders, delivery service Zomato has started displayed on the app the delivery guy’s body temperature. However, Zomato isn’t the first to do this. This was actually done first by Chinese food delivery apps.
Its restaurant partners have been checking the delivery partners’ body temperatures via thermal sensing devices. Zomato claimed that the delivery guy could only work if there was nothing wrong with their body temperature.
No-contact delivery

Swiggy has added a new option for no-contact delivery to follow the social distancing policy.
If you choose a prepaid payment method which is recommended to avoid physical contact, you can go for no-contact delivery. This means, your order will be dropped off at your gate or door. The delivery guy then rings the bell for you to come and get your food. Another company that is also offering this option is Dominoes.
Strict hygiene guidelines

These apps also provide users with the list of restaurants following the WHO’s strict hygiene guidelines. There is also a list of places that are closet to your house so you can place your orders easily.
Although these delivery services are trying their best to ensure safety, you should also take precautions as well. After you finish your food, make sure you throw them away. And if you can, before eating, heat your food.
