YouTube Music And Spotify, Which One Is Right For You?

Both Spotify and YouTube Music have experience as well as advantages in the music streaming industry, but they also have unique features to set themselves apart

Music streaming providers seem to decide to jump in the Indian market at the same time. A few months ago, Gaana, Amazon Prime Music, and JioSaavn were launched, shortly after that, YouTube Music and Spotify add themselves to the list.

While Spotify has gained more than 1 million users, YouTube, as the current biggest platform for streaming, is hot on its heels. With all the extra choices we suddenly have at hand, it might be overwhelming to choose yourself the most suitable platform to stream music. This is why we make this comparison to help you navigate better:

Features

Spotify 720 1

Spotify has a bold design

Spotify has been bold with its interface’s design by utilizing black and green color. All the texts are clearly legible, and album covers are appealing to the eye.

It is an experienced player in music streaming, so its app works well for most of its markets, including India. The transition from mobile to desktop is smooth, but so far, Spotify has not yet worked on smart speakers. However, with the arrival of plugins, we may be able to do so soon. With Spotify, you have a private zone to stream music, and it also lets you add the Bluetooth system of a car to the network.

YouTube Music is no less appealing although it chooses a more straightforward approach to the design. You can easily make out the music category, the video, and the covers thanks to the carefully calculated space among them.

In comparison with Spotify, YouTube Music has a simpler interface

In YouTube Music, you have a toggle switch to let users change the format of the experience between video and audio. This feature is something achievable for YouTube, considering its history in being a massive video sharing platform.

Content

There is something only time can answer and deciding which is better is one of them. Most Indian users are moving back and forth between YouTube and Spotify after weeks of having access to both of them.

It seems like Spotify is great if you want to stay up-to-date with music. The app will display new pieces according to your favorite genre and even your location. One significant downer is Warner Music is absent from the app, so you are missing out a lot.

Spotify is great for discovering new music

Regarding content ranges, not many platforms can outpace YouTube Music. As we have already known that you get to switch between audio and videos, and the fact that it is under Google, expect a vast library as well as recommendations as good as what Google provides.

The app stores your listening history, and with machine learning technology in place, you always have viable options to choose from.

YouTube Music has a better localization than Spotify as it has already offered music of different languages, a feature the latter has not yet had.

Price

For now, YouTube Music’s basic plan will set you back Rs 99 a month, and it intends to launch a new family plan that allows a maximum of 6 people to use the service for a fee of Rs 149.

YouTube Music comes with a three-month free trial

YouTube Music comes as a separate app, and when you have had it, you can stream music for free for three months.

Spotify also has the same free-trial period with YouTube, but it comes at a price, which is to subscribe for its premium plan at the expense of Rs 119. You get to choose the amount to time you want to be a subscriber, which can be from days up to a year. A cheaper option is to select a student plan, which costs half of a regular one. A thing like a plan for the whole family on Spotify has not yet been announced either.
