A former Yahoo employee admitted that he hacked into about 6,000 accounts to search for sexual contents including videos and photos. As revealed in court documents, the engineer’s name is Reyes Daniel Ruiz, 34 years old.

The hacker made use of his employee access to the internet network of Yahoo and cracked passwords of thousands of users. And then, he downloaded a countless number of videos and photos to his private hard drive that was kept at home.

According to his revelation, the targeted accounts belonged to young women. It’s worth noting that these victims included his own colleagues and friends. After succeeding in accessing to the victims’ Yahoo accounts, Ruiz utilized password resets from third-party sites and broke into Facebook, DropBox, Apple iCloud, Gmail, as well as many other accounts. When being denounced, he rapidly abolished both of his hard drive and computer. However, he must be responsible for what he did.

The 5-year sentence will probably be what is waiting for him ahead.

ZDNet reported that this former Yahoo employee worked as an engineer of Yahoo! Mail for over 10 years. In addition, he also held many other roles in this company. He is now working for a tech firm that specializes in providing sign-on solutions. Ruiz will probably be sentenced to a maximum of 5 years in prison on February 03, 2020.

Besides, this is not the first time Verizon-owned Yahoo has got hacked. In the past, it had to pay up to $117.5 million for nearly 200 million affected users in a data breach.
