On the present day, in Paris, Diana Prince gets a photograph showing herself along with four men taken in World War I, which reminds her of her past.

Diana is Queen Hippolyta's daughter, raised on a hidden island called Themyscira, which houses the Amazons, the woman warriors that Zeus created to protect humanity. Hippolyta explained to Diana about their history and how Ares grew jealous of humanity and planned to destroy it. As the other gods tried to stop Ares, he killed everyone except for Zeus, who used all the power left to wound Ares and forced him to retreat.

Before Zeus died, he left the weapon “Godkiller” for the Amazons so they could prepare for Ares’ return. Reluctantly, Hippolyta lets General Antiope, her sister, train Diana to become a warrior.

In 1918, Diana rescues Captain Steve Trevor when his aircraft crashes off the coast in Themyscira. Soon, the German, who had been pursuing Steve, invaded the island. While the Amazons eliminate the crew, Antiope sacrifices herself to save Diana. During an interrogation with the Lasso of Hestia, Steve reveals about World War I and that he is a spy for the Allied. He has stolen a notebook from Dr. Isabel Maru, the chief chemist of the German, who is trying to produce a deadlier form of mustard gas as ordered by General Erich Ludendorff. Diana believes Ares is behind the war, so she carries the Godkiller, armor, and the lasso then goes to find Ares and stop him for good.

In London, Maru’s notebook is delivered to the Supreme War Council, where Patrick Morgan is attempting to negotiate an armistice with the German. Diana translates Maru’s notes, which reveals the German’s plan to release the fatal gas at the Western Front. Though his commander forbids him, Steve recruits marksman Charlie, spy Sameer, and smuggler Chief Napi to stop this plan. The team gets to the front in Belgium. Meanwhile, Diana travels through No Man’s Land all along, captures the enemy trench, liberates the nearby village of Veld with the help of the Allied forces. This is where Steve and Diana fall in love with each other.

The team then learns that there will be a gala at the German High Command. Diana and Steve split and get in the party. Steve wants to find the gas to destroy it while Diana wants to kill Ludendorff as she believes that’s Ares. Steve stops Diana to avoid ruining his mission, while Ludendorff managed to release the gas on Veld, which kills many people. Diana then pursues Ludendorff to a base, at which they were loading the gas into a bomber aircraft that will fly to London. Diana fights and kills Ludendorff, but this death doesn’t stop the war, which confuses and disillusions her.

Then, Morgan appears, who turns out to be Ares, telling Diana that while he gives humans the idea and inspires them, it comes down to their own decision to initiate the war. Diana tries to kill Ares using the Godkiller but he destroys the sword, telling Diana that she is Zeus’ daughter and her mother Hippolyta is the Godkiller. He can’t convince her to help him destroy humans to restore paradise on Earth.

As Diana and Ares fight, Steve and his team destroy Maru’s lab. He hijacks and flies a bomber aircraft full of poison then detonates it, which kills himself too. Ares tries to convince Diana to kill Maru sing Steve’s death but Diana has realized the good in humans. She lets Maru live and kills Ares.
