Women Reportedly Being Sexually Assaulted In India’s COVID-19 Quarantine Facility

At least three women were sexually assaulted, two were raped. A fourth said that she was stalked at a COVID-19 isolation facility.

In July, at various India’s COVID-19 quarantine facilities, at least three women were sexually assaulted, two were raped. A fourth says that she was stalked at an isolation facility.

Different cases in three separate states have been reported. In one case in Delhi, a 25-year-old woman was admitted to the Deen Dayal Hospital on July 20, after her testing results suggested that she was positive with COVID-19. Dr. Tufail Ahmed was reported attempting to rape her in the isolation ward of the hospital. After the patient filed a complaint to the police, the doctor was arrested in a hotel.

The victim was among the 250 people admitted to the quarantine facility in Delhi’s Chhatarpur district. After the incident, she underwent a medical examination, which confirmed that she had been sexually assaulted.

The facility said to be the world’s largest, is built for patients who are incapable of isolating in their houses. Both the victim and the rapist were living in the slums and went to the isolation facility with their relatives.
