Many Indian entrepreneurs have made their contribution towards the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
And among them, one of the biggest donors is Azim Premji, the founder of Wipro. Premji, known as one of the leading business tycoons of India, is also a philanthropist.
According to the top 10 private donations list of Forbes, Azim Premji is the third biggest private contributors to support the fight against the COVID-19 crisis. And the most important thing is that, in a list which mostly consists of US billionaires, Premji is the only Indian making it to the top 10.
At the beginning of April, Azim Premji donated Rs 1,125 crore to help medical and service workers, who stand at the frontline to protect other people against the pandemic. The money was also meant to help people who are underprivileged.
Of the Rs 1,125 crore, Rs 1,000 crore was from the Azim Premji Foundation, Rs 100 crore was from Wipro, and Rs 25 crore was from Wipro Enterprises.
As per Forbes, by the end of April, 77 billionaires have made contributions towards COVID-19 relief funds.
At the top of the list is Jack Dorsey, Twitter’s CEO, who has made a donation of $1 billion or Rs 7,549. At the second spot are Bill Gates and Melinda Gates who have donated $225 million or Rs 1,925 crore.
After being slammed for standing on top of his 27-floor mansion and ringing a bell to support healthcare workers, the richest man in Asia, Mukesh Ambani, donated $66 million to the fight against the pandemic.
