WHO Praises India’s Aarogya Setu App For Reducing COVID-19 Spread

The WHO recently praised apps like the Aarogya Setu of India for contributing their efforts in preventing the spread of COVID-19.

Among the several measures done by countries around the world to contain the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, the World Health Organization emphasized the role of digital technologies.

The WHO chief stated that the Aarogya Setu app of India has had 150 million users. By having this massive amount of users, city public health departments can identify areas that should be tested.

Besides the one from India, Dr. Tedros also mentioned similar apps in other countries as well. For example, he talked about Germany’s Corona-Warn app that has been used to send to users 1.2 million test results right from the labs in its first 100 days.

Similarly, with the help of a mobile application, Denmark authorities managed to test over 2,700 people for COVID-19.

Meanwhile, in the UK, a new version of the NHS UK app had been downloaded over 10 million times in its first week.

Dr. Tedros also clarified that attaining herd immunity is an illusion. The virus transmits between close contacts. So “targeted measure” can help control any outbreaks.
