Students from Alabama, US are throwing “coronavirus parties” and the one who becomes infected first gets the prize money.
Unlike the previous parties which haven’t been confirmed, a councilor from Tuscaloosa has already confirmed the existence of the ones in Alabama.
The students intentionally invited COVID-19 patients so that they could spread the virus.

The Tuscaloosa City Councillor, Sonya McKinstry, said to the officials that, the money was put in a pot and the winner would be the one to get infected first.
There is no information regarding whether any measures have been made to stop this activity or not.
Since the COVID-19 started to break out in the US, a section of people haven’t taken the virus seriously and underestimated the consequences. Two months ago, people hold large protests to demand the lockdown to be lifted.
Back in May, a press release stated that health officials of Walla Walla country had been receiving reports of people organizing COVID-19 parties, where non-infected people and an infected person would mingle in order to spread the virus.
According to the director of the Department of Community Health of the county, around 25 infected people had confessed to having attended one of these COVID-19 parties.
However, the NY Times then writes that these parties weren’t organized to intentionally spread the virus. Director Meghan DeBolt stated that the county was still receiving reports of these parties where there were infected people attending. However, they didn’t have evidence suggesting that people who got infected after the parties had a desire to be contracted with the virus. And these parties were only meant for social gathering.
