Having been a predominantly popular chatting app in India, WhatsApp also raises eyebrows of people from every class such as politicians, activists, and even criminals. Recently, the app has been under scrutiny of the law enforcement agencies owing to the fact that WhatsApp users have been abusing it for illegal activities.
The work of police even becomes harder when they can not utilize the end-to-end encryption for message track-finding, despite the fact that it can guarantee the cybersecurity for users. However, in fact, this encryption is not effective like what they might have expected.
Like Facebook - the parent of WhatsApp, the company also saves metadata collected from WhatsApp users, and such kind of information can be approached by those who are competent authorities. That also means the police are legitimately allowed to know users’ names, their IP addresses, phone numbers, locations and so on if they suspect those users to commit a crime. Furthermore, they can even know the people who are on chats with the suspected and their contacts. Even when users of WhatsApp do not have any particular rules to follow, they can be arrested by the police in these following cases:
1. WhatsApp group admins can be found guilty if a group member expresses his/her desire against the law publicly.
2. WhatsApp users who spread out porn videos, obscene material, especially those related to child porn on the platform will be imprisoned.
3. Users who share doctored videos or morphed images of celebrities in every field on WhatsApp groups will be arrested.
4. If a woman reports you of having harassed her, you will be placed under arrest.
5. If you create a fake WhatsApp account with a false name, you can also be imprisoned.
6. Those who distribute offensive messages having harmful content to religion or worship places will be sentenced to imprisonment.
7. You will surely catch the attention of police in case of spreading fake news or rumors of sensitive issues to initiate violence.
8. If you do not want to be under arrest, remember not to use WhatsApp to sell drugs and other prohibited goods.
