On April 3, Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked all citizens to join hands and perform a task on April 5 evening as the country continues the fight against COVID-19.
He asked people to light up diyas and lamps to put an end to the darkness of the pandemic while appreciating the efforts of the whole nation during the 21-day lockdown.
Right after his announcement was made, a WhatsApp forward became viral on the internet as it tried to unpack the appeal of the PM and add to it some pseudo-science.

The message states that according to NASA, coronaviruses can’t survive in hot temperatures. If they light up 130 candles, it will add a 9-degree increase in temperature, killing the Coronavirus that causes COVID-19.
NASA is an organization focusing on space research. There isn’t any evidence suggesting the space agency conducting any COVID-19 research. Instead, they are funding research to investigate the changes in pollution levels after countries are put under lockdown due to the pandemic.

And WHO has already debunked the false and misleading information that the virus will die in hot weather. Countries with high temperatures have had cases of COVID-19. No matter how hot or how sunny the weather is, you can still be infected with the virus.
The fake news has spread to Twitter. While some wise people know that it is fake news, some still share them on their accounts.
Last time when the PM asked the citizens to show their admiration and encouragement to the people in the front line by clapping their hands, fake news surfaced saying that COVID-19 could be killed by clapping noise.

It is clear that we must fact-check all information that we read on social media platforms. People sharing fake news must know that such sharing of fake news can have bad influences in times like these.
