Many rural areas in India appear to be isolated from a lot of amenities that are regular to urban residents such as access to means of transport and hospitals. However, West Bengal is attempting to change the treatment conditions for its village people using a drone system.
According to reports, the state authority is carefully considering a proposal to use drones for the distribution of medical supplies for remote areas within the state. The state government is clearly thinking of hiring an expert for developing a drone delivery system. Hopefully, with this, those living in remote areas will have better access to healthcare since local clinics and hospitals cannot offer enough supplies.
West Bengal’s head of monitoring cell Colonel Diptanshu Chaudhary told IANS that:
If the proposal is feasible, the state government will carry out a pilot study. And if the study succeeds, they will start the program, expected to give great benefits to government hospitals located in areas like Sunderbans, Darjeeling, as well as other remote places.
The program’s idea is to provide aids for critical patients in the first 4 hours to save their lives. For example, in case of an urgent need for a blood report, they can use drones to bring it from the nearest laboratory in such areas.
It’s also believed that the system will assist in distributing aid and supplies during disasters such as landslides and floods when transporting on roads is impossible.
