UP School Teachers Take Selfies For Their Attendance Check

Barabanki district’s education officials of Uttar Pradesh have taken measure to ensure that all teachers working at government schools show up at work. It is now a requirement for teachers to snap selfies of them standing in front of the classrooms. They need to upload the photos onto the Basic Shiksha Adhikari website in time for attendance check, which is before 8 am.

The move was reportedly made to get rid of the ghost teacher problem in government schools. If anyone fails to upload their photo, they will lose the salary of one day. The new system is put into operation starting from May before the summer vacation started. Until now, there are over 700 teachers who have lost one day’s salary.

Recently, it is reported that it is common for teachers to let “underqualified” ones to take their place in class. And these substitute teachers even check the attendance. Moreover, the principals are said to also be a part of this, receiving a share of the money.

An official said:

Besides the attendance check, teachers who use social media platforms while at work will also face a salary deduction.

V.P Singh from Basic Shiksha Adhikari said:

However, the new system receives a lot of complaints from teachers for being unfair as they can be late because of the unavailability of public transportation, traffic jams, and many other problems.
