U.S President Donald Trump has taken the steroid drug dexamethasone, which is usually given to serious cases of COVID-19.
According to a study in June, the drug helps in increasing the chance of survival for severely-ill victims of the Coronavirus. WHO (World Health Organization) recommends to reserve it for critical COVID-19 cases only.
At a conference held recently, Trump’s doctor admitted that the president was given extra oxygen as his blood oxygen level decreased. He is also taking remdesivir, which can help shorten hospital stay for COVID-19 patients, as some early evidence suggest.

However, in another conference, doctors treating Trump said he was able to get out of bed and walk, along with a claim that he would probably be discharged from the hospital on Monday.
Trump recently got out of Walter Reed hospital to wave at his supporters, a decision described as ‘insane’ by one of the hospital’s doctors as he might infect Walter Reed staff and his Secret Service agents.

Given that Trump is overweight and is 74 years old, he is at risk of being seriously ill. At this point, we can’t be sure whether the president directed the doctors to give him these drugs or these medical experts have the liberty to prescribe based on their medical assessment.
About how the president caught the virus in the first place, for now, it’s still unclear as it takes up to 14 days for a person exposed to COVID-19 to test positive for it.
It’s possible that he got it from his consultant Hope Hicks but some evidence points to the possibility that the September 26 ceremony at the White House might be a superspreding event. We know for sure that 7 people attending the ceremony has tested positive for COVID-19.
