From joining the battlefields to fighting with social evils, telling heroic tales, music and film continue to portray different aspects of patriotism. The positive box-office numbers have proved the appeal of these movies. As a result, we have witnessed an increase in the number of patriotic movies in 2019. And the same thing will happen in 2020.

Most of these films focus on stories whose plots are about fighting terrorism, retelling epic tales from history, describing social issues, and celebrating the country’s achievements.

As India just celebrated its 73rd Independence Day and it will be the 74th Independence Day next year, here is a list of patriotic movies that you can take a look at.

Attack

In this upcoming thriller movie called Attack from director Lakshya Raj Anand, John Abraham will have to deal with terrorists. Abraham made an announcement on his Instagram.

From the caption, we can guess that the movie is based on true events. The plot involves a hostage situation. Abraham will lead a team of rescuers to fight off threats to the national security. The movie will hit the cinema sometime around May 2020.

Saare Jahan Se Achcha

This is a biographical movie about the life of Rakesh Sharma, a former pilot of the Indian Air Force. The movie hasn’t confirmed its lead actor yet.

It is said the Vicky Kaushal has been considered for the lead role. Whoever the lead actor will be, he will have to get to know what astronauts deal with when they are in space.

Indian 2

The film sees the participation of Kamal Haasan as Senepathy and Nedumudi Venu as Krishnaswamy from the first film. Vidyut Jammwal will play a villain in this movie.

Siddharth may act as the grandson of Senepathy, who wants to get rid of corruption by killing corrupted government officials in the original film.

The movie is directed by S. Shankar and began shooting in 2019 and will hit the box-office on January 18, 2020.

Rakul Preet Singh and Kajal Aggarwal are responsible for the female lead roles.

Kaappaan

Kaappaan is a thriller film in Tamil-language. K.V. Anand wrote the plot and directed the movie. The movie saw the participation of famous stars like Sayyashaa, Arya, Mohanlal, and Suriya. The movie hit the theater on September 20, 2019.

In the movie, Mohanlal acts as the PM while Suriya is a first-rank SPG officer.

The crew went to different foreign locations to shoot the film. Kaappaan is reportedly inspired by the life of GR Gopinath, Air Deccan’s founder, an Indian Army retired Captain, a politician, and an author.

Sarileru Neekevvaru

In this movie, Mahesh Babu will portray an Army officer. He will play Major Ajay Krishna, a tough officer ready to fight terrorism and keep the country safe.

The lead actress of the movie will be played by Rashmika Mandanna.

The film will hit the theater on January 12, 2020. Sarileru Neekevvaru is the work of director Anil Ravipudi. The film’s main cast lineup includes Rashmika Mandanna, Mahesh Babu, Prakash Raj, Vijayashanti, Rajendra Prasad, and Ramya Krishna.

Sooryavanshi

In this action movie from director Rohit Shetty, Akshay Kuma will portray ATS chief Veer Sooryanavshi. The movie marks the first time that Rohit and Akshay work together. The other main lead will be played by Katrina Kaif. The is Rohit’s fourth film in his cop film universe, depicting the hard work, honesty, loyalty, and discipline towards the nation.

Taanaji: The Unsung Warrior

The action movie is based on the life of the 17-century military leader Maharashtrian Marathi. Taanaji is a warrior known for the 1670 Battle of Sinhagad. With the request of Chhatrapati Shivaji, he vowed to recapture the Kondana’s fortress near Pune.

The film sees the acting of Ajay Devgn who will play Subedar Taanaji Malusare. Although there is not much information about the film, the lead role will be played by Saif Ali Khan. Bhushan Kuma from T-Series will be responsible for the producing of the movie. Taanaji: The Unsung Warrior will hit the theater on 22 November 2019.

Udham Singh biopic

Vicky Kaushal will play the lead in this next movie by Shoojit Sircar.

The story takes us back to pre-Independence India and tells the life of a martyr who daringly assassinated a Punjab’s former lieutenant governor called Michael O’Dwyer as a revenge for the Amritsar Jallianwala Bagh massacre in 1919.

In July 1940, Singh was hanged for murder. Vicky expressed his thoughts on working in the movie:

Sam

Field Marshal Manekshaw or also known as Sam Bahadur was born in Amritsar on 3 April 1914. Vicky Kaushal will portray Sam Manekshaw, India’s first Field Marshal. After Raazi, this is the second time that Meghna and Kaushal work together.

In the 1971 battle, India defeated Pakistan. Manekshaw was India’s first Army officer to become a Field Marshal. Along with Meghna, Shantanu Shrivastava and Bhavani Iyer also participate in writing the script.

On the death anniversary of Manekshaw, Kaushal shared some sneak-peaks on his account with him dressing as a Field Marshal. The movie will be released in 2021.

Kargil Girl

Janhvi Kapoor takes the lead role in the movie based on Gunjan Saxena’s real life. Saxena was the first female combat aviator who had entered the 1999 Kargil War’s war zone. The first schedule of the movie took place in Lucknow. For another schedule, Angad Bedi and Kapoor went to Georgia’s high altitudes. Angad takes up the role of Anshuman Saxena, Gunjan’s brother. The movie will hit the box-office in 2020.
