According to Sensor Tower data which was released earlier this month, on both Apple App Store and Google Play Store, Tiktok was downloaded over 104.7 million times in January, a 46% increase from the same month last year.

And as expected, India, with 34.4% of the total global downloads, led the way while Brazil came in second with 10.4%. Although US users were a bit late to join the TikTok bandwagon, the platform has become incredibly popular in the country, especially among youngsters. That’s why the US has become TikTok’s third-largest international market, accounting for 7.3% of the total global downloads.

WhatsApp, which was dethroned by TikTok was January’s second most downloaded non-gaming app globally with approximately 90.6 million installs, a 10% increase from the same month last year. And once again, India topped the list at 35.5 percent. Brazil was in second position at 9.4%. The other apps in the top-five most installed apps in January included Facebook, Messenger, and Instagram.

Over the last few years, TikTok has turned itself into a global phenomenon with a massively growing user base. Despite multiple privacy concerns and controversies, the app still continues along its growth trajectory.
