This Recently Discovered Quantum Material Could “Download” Your Brain

Scientists have recently discovered a new quantum material that could potentially have the ability to transfer data from your brain into a computer

What if our human brain could somehow notice that we have a disease? There have been many types of research concerning that field of study; however, there has been one particular research that rises head and shoulder above the rest, a material that actually thinks the way our brain does.

According to Hai-Tian Zhang – Purdue’s College of Engineering’s Gilbreth postdoctoral – the research’s goal is to bridge the gap between how our brains think, and how the electrons think, which is the relationship between the brain’s ions and the electrons. And this new material could potentially fill the gap between those two.

The research is still in its early stages, however, to summarize things up, the idea is basically to hook human up with a computer or to upload brains into the cloud system to keep track of their health. This sound almost like something that comes out straight out of a sci-fi movie.

This new quantum material is called “nickelate lattice” which according to the scientists, could instantly translate electrochemical signals from the human brain into the electrical activity that could be deciphered by the computer.

Shriram Ramanathan – Purdue University engineer – stated that this material could pave a path to a new computing device to transfer or store human memories. He further noted that if we put an electronic device inside the brain, a person can retrieve memories even when the natural brain starts deteriorating.

However, Purdue University and Argonne National Laboratory researchers have only built a material that could “listen”. The material only has the ability to observe some of our neurotransmitters – so we still have to go a long way to upload a whole human brain or anything of the same magnitude. However, in the long term, this material could potentially have the ability to store our mind and to predict neurological diseases.
